Introduction: IT/DR Planning with New DR Technologies

  • Definition of IT/DR Terms
  • IT/DR planning with new DR technologies

Module 1: How to create an IT/DR Project Plan and gain Leadership Approval

  • Understand the DR professional’s role
  • Establish the need for IT/DR, based on issues, goals, and objectives
  • Review new IT/DR strategies and building project plans
  • Learn how to obtain management approval and funding for IT/DR implementation and support
  • Organize IT/DR projects by formulating goals and objectives
  • Define deliverables and assign resources to tasks via project plan
  • Integrate IT/DR process within the business continuity management (BCM) process

Module 2: Risk Assessment (RA) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA)

  • Understand the DR professional’s role
  • Describe what a risk assessment (RA) and business impact analysis
  • (BIA) is and its importance to the DR process
  • Identify business requirements and their interdependencies on Information Technology
  • Be aware of regulatory requirements and recovery needs
  • Define Recovery Objectives (RTO/RPO /RTC)
  • Categorize applications into Tiers, by criticality
  • Prioritize applications, servers and systems by RTO and RPO
  • Define upgrades needed to obtain RTO/RPO objectives
  • Class exercise: Develop a BIA subset document specifically for IT

Module 3: Selecting an IT/DR Strategy (Filling the Gap)

  • Understand the DR professional’s role
  • Know what affects IT/DR and how to prepare and respond to it
  • Define the terms associated with developing and implementing IT disaster recovery strategies
  • Describe the methods used in developing and implementing IT disaster recovery strategies with current and new technologies
  • Develop a plan to implement and support IT/DR with the new technologies
  • Complete the exercise at the end of this lesson
  • Class Exercise: Develop an IT strategies document

Module 4: Developing IT/DR plans

  • Develop and implement an IT/DR recovery plan for a range of environments
  • Class Exercise: Develop an IT/DR plan

Module 5: Intro to New IT/DR Technologies and How They Impact IT/DR Recovery Times

  • Understand the evolving DR professional’s role
  • Understand the new IT/DR Technologies and how they impact IT/DR
  • Recovery times and costs
  • Identify the need for IT/DR and BCM and how the new DR technologies can be employed to improve disaster recovery times and business continuity management
  • Obtain knowledge of future business continuity and IT/DR recovery industry direction
  • Learn about information security and risk management in the virtual and cloud environments
  • Learn how to obtain leadership approval for defined IT/DR deliverables and time schedules
  • Develop recovery teams and organizational structure
  • Organize DR projects by formulating tasks and milestones leading to implementing DR plans
